- Doctoral fellowship from Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung, Germany, including research grant for University of California at San Diego in 1980
- Charles-Phelps-Taft-Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Cincinnati, OH, in 1985
- Accredited by the American Translators Association (ATA) in English to German translation since 1994
